The faculty of Islamic Mission was first established in 1982 as per Decree # 3484 in the time of the Martyr Mufti Sheikh Hassan Khaled. Then, an academic agreement has been concluded in the time of Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Ragheb Kabbani with Al- Azhar University to the effect that the Shari’ah faculty certificate should be equivalent to the certificate granted by the Faculty of Shari’ah and Laws in the university. Therefore, the name of the faculty changed to: “Faculty of Islamic Shari’ah” by virtue of Decree # 87 dated 1/3/1990. In 1997, a branch has been created for girls in the same faculty pursuant to resolution # 15 issued by the faculty, noting women’ role in contributing to the development of family and society. http://www.biu.edu.lb/pages/About/about.htm
